What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a system of manual therapy that is recognised as part of the national health system in many western countries. It encourages the body to move as freely and as pain-free as possible.

In addition to standardised tests, osteopaths use touch, movement & observation to
diagnose and treat physiological or mechanical disturbances in the body.

A comfortable, hands–on therapy

Having a range of techniques allows us to choose the best ones for each patient and their condition,, from the most physically active to babies & the elderly.

Examination and treatment aim to be comfortable, so even the most nervous can benefit! We take a detailed case-history from new patients. This helps us choose the best treatment for you &, importantly, also gives signs of any other serious problem for which a G.P should be consulted.
Not just for bad backs
Few people realise that osteopathy can also help many other conditions such as:

• Asthma
• Jaw pain
• Headaches
• Ear infections
• Digestive disorders
• Pregnancy discomfort
• Knee, ankle or arm problems

For those suffering from a permanent condition or general ill-health, treatment can greatly improve quality of life by reducing pain, encouraging mobility and healthy-functioning.

Addressing causes
Only by treating the causes of your problems will you get long-term relief.

Osteopathy strives to uncover how a complaint may be related to things happening elsewhere in your body or environment. This is the cornerstone of an effective treatment plan which will address more than symptoms.
